Around the World Cycle Ride(Grand Depart)

Reece Gledhill 1Grand Depart 2015BikeReece Gledhill 2

On February 1st. 2015 after the Church Parade Service, Reece Gledhill of our 16th Airedale Scout Troop, set off on his around the world cycle ride.  On his journey he  passed through twenty countries, three continents & three deserts, as well as crossing several mountain ranges.  Throughout his trip he carried all he needed to survive for the 10 months travel.  His fully laden bike weighed around 35kg. but in remote areas this weight will almost double due to the large volume of water and food needed to be carried!
Having taken precautions and confident in his abilities there were still substantial dangers, from dehydration in deserts, freezing in mountains, getting lost in remote areas, dangerous roads and dangerous drivers. " I believe however," wrote Reece, "that it's all worth it if I can raise enough money for The Scout Association and UNICEF and hopefully(and this is the important part) show that the world is not a scary place and that we, as Scouts, should be doing everything we can to help others"  His target was £20,000.  Please see pictures of his travels in
